1. A win for the Buccaneers. Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com, who covers the NFC South, says it might be time to cast a vote for Tampa's Mark Dominik as general manager of the year. "Dominik deserves praise for getting anything in exchange for this guy," he writes. "This was a move that was long overdue."
2. Bucs make right right move. Writing from the Buccaneers' perspective, columnist Martin Fennelly of the Tampa Tribune lauds the trade. His first line: "It's about time."
3. Buccaneers earn trust. Gary Shelton of the Tampa Times writes that it's a surprise the Buccaneers got anything for Talib, who he believes should have been dumped a long time ago. "And now we know what Greg Schiano meant a few weeks ago when he said 'Trust Us,'" Shelton writes.
4. Worthy gamble for Patriots. Chris Burke of SI.com likes the trade for the Patriots. "It’s a move that only solidifies the Patriots’ standing as a contender again this season," he writes. "Red flags and all, Talib could be just what the Patriots were missing."
5. Desperation move in New England. Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe opines that the fourth-round draft choice given up by the Patriots lessened how much he liked the deal.
6. Character vs. wins. Tom E. Curran of Comcast SportsNet balances Talib's talent vs. his rap sheet, while sharing the Patriots' viewpoint. "The Patriots' mindset on this stuff is simple. Every incoming player gets a clean slate. If they dirty said slate, there will be no debate. The player will be gone."
7. Instant debate. In its "Instant Debate" feature, NFL.com taps the opinions of Charley Casserly, old friend Ian Rapoport, Daniel Jeremiah, Gregg Rosenthal and Jason Smith on the trade. The scorecard from a Patriots perspective -- 3 like it, 1 doesn't like it, and 1 is somewhat neutral.
8. Low risk, high reward. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com focuses on the upside and downside. "Belichick surely sees this as a low-risk, high-reward proposition. If Talib stays on the right path, he will instantly upgrade the New England secondary ... Is Talib talented? Yes. Is he troubled? Yes. Is he on a one-strike arrangement in New England? Undoubtedly."
