The trial for Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, who is facing charges of felony assault and two related misdemeanors, is scheduled to begin today in the District Court of Lancaster County, Nebraska.
As noted by the World-Herald, jury selection was the first step in the process.
Dennard was arrested just days before the 2012 NFL draft for an incident in which he allegedly punched a police officer in the face outside of a Lincoln area bar. The trial was delayed twice, allowing Dennard to play his entire rookie season without having to miss time to attend it. A pretrial hearing was held on Jan. 17, 2013, during which the date for the trial was set for today and to continue through this week if needed.
The Nebraska product slipped to the seventh round of the draft as a result of his arrest, but eventually became a starter for the Patriots in their secondary. He registered three interceptions in 10 regular season games, and is a projected starter for next season.
