Kiper tabs Hunter, Mathieu in mock

ESPN's NFL draft expert Mel Kiper has unveiled his latest mock draft, this time expanding to two rounds.

We've noted recently that the Patriots' top two needs at this juncture of the offseason are wide receiver and cornerback, and Kiper's projection stands in line with that sentiment.

At pick 29 in the first round, Kiper believes that the Patriots will fill their hole at receiver by taking Tennessee's Justin Hunter, a big target with exceptional speed who was one of the most explosive receivers at this year's combine. He stands at 6-foot-4, weighs 196 pounds and finished with nearly 1,100 yards receiving during his final college season.

In Round 2, Kiper believes the Patriots could take a chance on former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who was dismissed from the Tigers before the 2012 season and did not play football last year. In 2011, Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy finalist after finishing with 77 tackles, five forced fumbles, two interceptions and four total touchdowns. He was arrested in October 2012 on charges of possession on marijuana. At 5-foot-9, he projects as a slot cornerback.
