We're just over two weeks away from the start of the 2013 NFL draft, and mock drafts will fill the landscape between now and that time. A panel of eight experts has recently updated their mock drafts for CBSSports.com, with three positions coming to the forefront for the Patriots at pick 29: cornerback, wide receiver and defensive tackle.
Four of the eight experts believe that the Patriots will address the cornerback position, with two votes apiece for Desmond Trufant and Jamar Taylor out of Washington and Boise State, respectively. Trufant has NFL pedigree with two older brothers that are active NFL players, and Taylor's strong combine has him in the first-round conversation.
Two experts peg the Patriots to take Kawann Short, a defensive tackle out of Purdue who was disruptive throughout his career behind the line of scrimmage. After agreeing to a deal with Tommy Kelly on Monday, the Patriots' plans at defensive tackle relating to the draft may have been altered.
Finally, both Robert Woods of USC and Keenan Allen from Cal, productive wide receivers during their Pac-12 careers, are also mentioned as possibilities for the Patriots. Though the team has signed Michael Jenkins in free agency, a receiver to play on the perimeter remains one of the top leftover needs at this juncture. Allen recently held a workout after missing the physical testing at the combine while recovering from a knee injury, reportedly running in the low 4.7 range for his 40.
A pair of analysts, Rob Rang and Dane Brugler, extended their projections into round two, with wide receiver Quinton Patton of Lousiana Tech and offensive tackle Kyle Long of Oregon as the Patriots' pick at 59.
