Brady present for start of voluntary program

Among those in attendance for the start of the Patriots’ offseason program Monday was quarterback Tom Brady. The 35-year-old was recently spotted working out with new teammate Danny Amendola near his offseason home in Southern California, but was back to work at the Patriots facility in Foxborough with a host of teammates for the strength and conditioning workouts.

The offseason program is the first opportunity for Patriots players to be back together since falling in the AFC Championship game in January. Although voluntary, many players have language in their contracts that rewards them for extensive participation. When Brady reworked his contract and signed a three-year extension earlier this offseason, the $250,000 offseason workout bonus for 2013 was converted into a guarantee as part of his $30 million signing bonus.

Brady has spent some of his previous offseasons working out in California, but was once again present at the start of the offseason program along many of his teammates. The offseason workouts are run by the team's strength and conditioning coach Harold Nash and assistant strength and conditioning coach Moses Cabrera. As part of the league's CBA, there are restrictions on other members of the coaching staff overseeing the workouts at this time (the rest of the coaching staff is allowed to be present later in the program).

The offseason program leads into the start of on-field organized team activities, beginning May 20.
