UConn's Smallwood among Patriots tryouts

The New England Patriots had seven players in for tryouts on Tuesday, continuing a process in which they update their emergency lists at various positions.

A bit more on each player:

LB Moise Fokou -- The 6-foot-1, 243-pound Fokou enters his sixth NFL season after spending time with the Eagles (2009-2011), Colts (2012) and Titans (2013). He is the most experienced of the players in for tryouts (35 career starts) and was with the Titans throughout training camp before being cut. Fokou would project to an off-the-line role in the Patriots' system, which is an area in which the team is a bit thin. He also has special teams experience. Fokou entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft choice out of Maryland in 2009.

DT Sione Fua -- The 6-foot-1, 310-pound Fua has spent time with the Panthers (2011-2013) and Broncos (2013), appearing in 29 games (12 starts). He was with the Broncos in training camp this year before being waived at the final cuts.

DE Brian Sanford -- The 6-foot-2, 280-pound Sanford is a four-year veteran who has been with Cleveland (2011-2013) and Oakland (2013). The Temple alum has played in 12 career games (1 start), and was with the Broncos in training camp before being waived in late August.

LB Yawin Smallwood -- A seventh-round draft choice of the Falcons this year, Smallwood (253rd overall) was waived at the cut to 53 players. The Connecticut alum is 6-foot-2 and 246 pounds and was a team captain in college.

LB Adrian Tracy -- The 6-foot-2, 248-pound Tracy spent the 2012 season with the Giants, appearing in all 16 games as a reserve, and spent the 2014 offseason and training camp with the Cardinals before he was released at the end of August. He is a William & Mary alum.

DE George Uko -- The 6-foot-3, 284-pound Uko is a rookie out of USC who was with the Saints before he was released in late August. He had initially signed with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent.

LB Chris Young -- An undrafted rookie out of Arizona State, he was with the Texans in training camp. At 6-foot-0 and 252 pounds, he is similar to the other linebackers in for tryouts in that he would project to an off-the-line role and add depth on special teams.
