The New England Revolution claimed their first win in Colorado since 2002 by beating the Rapids 2-0 on Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

Juan Agudelo scored in the 18th minute after bringing down a diagonal ball from Kelyn Rowe and floating it into the back of the net. Bobby Shuttleworth snuffed out a breakthrough opportunity by Dillon Powers in the 42nd minute. Lee Nguyen struck from the spot in the 54th minute after Charlie Davies was taken down inside the box by Jared Watts.

The Revolution's previous win in Colorado came on June 15, 2002 -- a 2-1 victory in which current Revs coach Jay Heaps started at center back.

Rapids coach Pablo Mastroeni was dismissed in the 59th minute for arguing about what he felt should have been a penalty committed against Juan Ramirez inside the area.

With the win, the Revolution improved their record to 2-2-1 (7 points) and are now unbeaten in their past three games (2-0-1). The Rapids suffered their first loss of the season and saw their record drop to 0-1-3 (3 points) after three consecutive 0-0 draws to start the season.

What it means: For the second straight week, the Revolution attack showed its teeth early and often. Agudelo's goal was nothing short of brilliant, and his class in the final third is something the squad lacked last season.

While Davies might have gone down early on the penalty that led to Nguyen's strike from the spot, his speed certainly presented a problem for a Rapids back line that hadn't conceded a goal all year. As good as the Revs looked on offense, the defensive effort wasn't similarly inspiring. Shuttleworth bailed out his back line on at least three separate occasions, and two other shots from the hosts smacked the woodwork. Rest assured that Heaps is going to demand more from his defenders going forward.

Goncalves exits early: Skipper Jose Goncalves had to come out in the 67th minute after he appeared to suffer a leg injury. Right back Darrius Barnes moved to the middle to take over for Goncalves, while Kevin Alston came on to fill the right back spot.

Bunbury returns: Four weeks after suffering a right shoulder sprain in Seattle, winger Teal Bunbury made his return to the pitch as a 71st-minute substitute, taking over for Agudelo on the right side of the midfield.

Injury shelves Kobayashi: Central midfielder Daigo Kobayashi, who played in each of the first four games, was unavailable for selection due to a hamstring strain. Veteran Andy Dorman filled in for Kobayashi.

Red jerseys debut: The Revolution donned their new secondary jerseys against the burgundy-clad Rapids. The last time the locals sported a red jersey was back in 1999.

Next up: The Revolution will return to action on April 11 against the Columbus Crew at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Last year, the Crew got the best of the Revolution in the regular season, going 2-1-0, but New England walloped Columbus 7-3 on aggregate in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
