Rapid Reaction: Blue Jays 1, Red Sox 0

The Red Sox had insult added to injury on Monday afternoon, losing to the Blue Jays, 1-0, in 11 innings after losing Josh Beckett to a sprained ankle in the fourth inning.

Brett Lawrie homered off reliever Dan Wheeler in the 11th to provide the only run of the game. Earlier, Lawrie was at the plate when Beckett seemed to tweak the ankle while making a pitch.

The Red Sox had their opportunities in this one. They were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 men on base.

Losers of five of their last seven, the Red Sox fell 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees, who beat the Orioles on Monday afternoon.

On the plus side, Alfredo Aceves was brilliant in relief of Beckett. He pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings, walking three, striking out four and giving up just one hit. Beckett had fanned six in his 3 2/3 innings before leaving with the injury.
