Gomes cuts knee, gets stitches

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Amid all the questions regarding Will Middlebrooks’ right wrist, Red Sox manager John Farrell neglected to mention until late Thursday afternoon that there was another minor injury Wednesday. Left-fielder Jonny Gomes banged into the fence in Sarasota, cutting his left knee, and needed three stitches.

Gomes is day-to-day, Farrell said.

“As tough as he is," Farrell said, “he mentioned, ‘Gomes 1, The Outfield Fence 0.' "
