Sox reassign four pitchers

As expected, the Red Sox made a few roster cuts today, reassigning right-handed pitchers Chris Carpenter, Terry Doyle and Oscar Villarreal, and left-handed pitcher Chris Hernandez to minor league camp.

The move leaves 42 players in big league camp.

The Sox need to be down to 25 players for the start of the season. Manager John Farrell has said he intends to carry 12 pitchers and 13 position players

The Red Sox now have 42 players in big league camp -- including 32 players from the 40-man roster, one on the 60-day disabled list, and 9 non-roster invitees -- and will probably reserve their most substantial pruning until next week.
