Iglesias hitting his stride

BOSTON -- Jose Iglesias already has shown that he has the defensive skills to play shortstop in the big leagues.

Now, the 20-year-old Cuban defector is answering the questions about his bat.

Playing for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, Iglesias is batting .390 (16 for 41) in his last 10 games, following up a 4-for-4 performance on Monday night with a triple and two singles and five RBIs Tuesday night.

He has had five multi-hit games in that span, raising his batting average to .323. He has yet to hit a home run, but 10 of his 31 hits have been for extra bases. The Sox would like him to improve on his strikeout (18) to walk (5) ratio, but his OBP/SLG/OPS line of .365/.448/.813 is very impressive, justifying the excitement he stirred in big-league camp this spring.
