While it seemed at one point Monday afternoon that the Boston Red Sox were out of the Jon Lester Sweepstakes, the pitcher’s agent quieted the bedlam (at last for now) with a denial.
Agent Seth Levinson called a Fox Sports report that, barring a late change, Lester was choosing between the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants “absolutely untrue.”
According to a report from CSSNNE.com, the Red Sox had a meeting scheduled with Lester’s reps Monday night in San Diego, where baseball’s winter meetings are being held.
The free-agent lefty Lester is expected to choose his new team by Tuesday.
