OAKLAND, Calif. -- Disabled Red Sox catcher Victor Martinez (fractured left thumb) spent time during batting practice working with head trainer Mike Reinold, and it’s possible Martinez could return during the team's current three-city, 10-day road trip.
Martinez was able to put his mitt on his left hand and is progressing.
“I bet there will be some days when he takes a big leap, and some days when he doesn’t,” manager Terry Francona said.
If everything goes as planned, it’s likely Martinez will be activated when the Sox face the Angels in Anaheim a week from now.
