Shooting outside Fenway Park wounds two, shatters glass at ticket office

BOSTON -- In a rare occurrence outside Fenway Park, there was gunfire on Yawkey Way around 2 a.m., hours after Saturday afternoon’s game against the Phillies had ended, resulting in wounds to two women in their 20s, damage to a nearby restaurant and shattered glass at the entrance of the Red Sox ticket office.

Boston police officer James Kenneally told the Boston Globe that one woman was hit in the leg and the other in her side. He called their injuries “not life threatening,” but he had no other details on their condition.

Dan Quintino, the general manager of Boston Beer Works, told the Globe a bullet pierced the restaurant’s front window, leaving the glass shattered. The closing manager of the restaurant heard loud gunshots, he said, and ducked behind the bar.

Kenneally told the Globe that police are looking into whether the incident was gang-related. Police said they have not identified suspects and they do not have a description of the shooter or shooters.
