Adrian Gonzalez in the house

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- New Boston Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez arrived at spring training this morning, pulling into the team’s development complex around 9:30 a.m. ET.

Upon arriving, Gonzalez -- still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery -- worked out and lifted weights indoors before coming out to the fields around 11 a.m. After saying hello to new teammates Ryan Kalish and Daniel Nava, Gonzalez shagged batting practice balls in the outfield and played catch with Red Sox minor leaguer David Renfroe.

Gonzalez, who also took some grounders at first base, is not expected to start swinging a bat until around the beginning of March.

When asked by a reporter whether Day 1 in Sox camp felt like the first day of school, Gonzalez said, “Same old, same old, just different fields.”

A fan watching the workout shouted “Good luck” to him in Spanish, to which he replied, “Gracias, Papi.”
