Wednesday night’s Red Sox-Rays game was postponed due to inclement weather, rescheduled for a date this summer to be determined. The Rays next visit Fenway in mid-August.
According to the team, the rain that drenched the region throughout the day (1.3 inches fell in the Fenway area, according to NECN meteorologist Matt Noyes) was expected to subside by Wednesday night, but the playing surface had many areas of standing water and was not expected to improve measurably throughout the night.
Tickets for Wednesday’s game can be used for the rescheduled contest.
With two consecutive days off now (Thursday was a regularly scheduled off day), Terry Francona decided to tweak his rotation a bit. John Lackey, who was scheduled to start Wednesday night, will be skipped. Clay Buchholz will make his regularly scheduled start on Friday, followed by Josh Beckett on Saturday. The Sox moved Jon Lester up to start Sunday, pushing Daisuke Matsuzaka back to Monday. Lackey will then make his next start Tuesday.
