The Red Sox today placed Mike Lowell on waivers, sources monitoring the wire told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.
This move puts Lowell on revocable waivers -- if a team puts a claim on the third baseman before the end of the 47-hour window, the Red Sox can still pull him back. If Lowell clears waivers without being claimed, the Red Sox can then trade him if they so desire.
