Bills post-draft roster reset: Defensive line

Taking a look at the Buffalo Bills' roster, which stands at 90 players following the draft and undrafted free-agent signings:

Position: Defensive line

Veterans: Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, Stefan Charles, Jarius Wynn, Alex Carrington, Corbin Bryant, Jeremy Towns

Drafted rookies: None

Undrafted rookies: Justin Hamilton

Rookie camp tryouts: None

Early thoughts: Rex Ryan's defense is unique in that, by traditional definitions, it uses three defensive tackles, one defensive end, one outside linebacker and two inside linebackers. For the purposes of this post, we'll look at the three defensive tackle spots. In the purest form of his defense, Ryan will use two stout players in 1- and 3-technique alignments and a longer player in a 5-technique alignment. Dareus and Williams fit the former category about as well as any players in the NFL, and both were Pro Bowlers for former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine in those roles in 2013. What remains unanswered is which player fills the latter category. Charles, Carrington, Wynn and Bryant could all be in the mix. Carrington won that job two seasons ago before he suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3.
