Rex Ryan: Sammy Watkins' quiet Sunday will be rare

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins was held without a catch in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Indianapolis Colts, an occurrence that coach Rex Ryan believes will be rare.

"Is it rare that Sammy [Watkins] is going to go without a catch?" Ryan said Monday. "Yeah, that will probably happen once this season. Our thing is our focus is trying to win the game, whatever the means, however we can do that, to give ourselves the best chance that is what we are going to do."

Watkins wasn't targeted until early in the fourth quarter and was credited with three targets in the game.

"I think sometimes it is going to be like that," Ryan said. "Whatever the plan is ... and you know quite honestly we were trying to play keep away a little bit from Indianapolis and you know had some more underneath throws and things like that.

"I will say this he was open a couple times, but it’s just like gosh the protection broke down once or we would have had a 60 or 70 yard touchdown. A guy whiffs on protection and we can’t make the throw down the field."
