Bills kicker Dan Carpenter cuts hair for first time in six years

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills kicker Dan Carpenter cut his hair Monday night after deciding that six years was long enough to grow it out.

"It has nothing to do with football," Carpenter told reporters at his locker Tuesday without prompting. The veteran kicker missed an extra point and a 50-yard field goal in Sunday's win against the Houston Texans.

Carpenter began growing his hair in 2009 when he was in his second NFL season with the Miami Dolphins. His wife, he said, was against him cutting it but he finally won that battle this week.

"I was just done with having long hair," he said. "There's nothing else to it."

Carpenter's wife tweeted Tuesday that his hair would be donated to charity to make a wig:
