Source: Panthers work out former Bucs DT Da'Quan Bowers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina Panthers tried out former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Da'Quan Bowers, a league source told ESPN.com.

A second-round pick out of Clemson in 2011, Bowers was released by Tampa Bay on Friday.

Bowers had seven sacks in four season with Tampa Bay, but only one last season after collecting 15½ during his junior season at Clemson.

Exactly where the Panthers would use Bowers should general manager Dave Gettlman choose to take a chance is unsure.

He could add depth at defensive tackle with Star Lotulelei battling a foot injury, but the team already has five tackles on the roster.
