CHICAGO – Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler did pass the league’s mandated concussion protocol after San Francisco safety Jaquiski Tartt lifted Cutler off the ground and slammed him to the turf late in Chicago’s 26-20 overtime loss to the 49ers.
“Yes, he did [go through the concussion protocol], and he passed,” Bears coach John Fox said.
The official Soldier Field scorers credited Tartt, who was not penalized on the play, with an 8-yard sack. The league is likely to take a second look to determine if Tartt used unnecessary force on the quarterback.
“He got me pretty good,” Cutler said. “I got up from the play. We went through the protocol. I had no problems. I talked to the doctors again. I feel fine at this point.
“I haven’t seen the replay, so I don’t know [if it should have been penalized].”
Cutler finishes the game 18-of-31 for 202 yards, with one interception, for a season-low 64.2 quarterback-rating.
