LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Chicago Bears placed safety Antrel Rolle on injured reserve and reinstated offensive tackle Tayo Fabuluje to the active roster, the team announced on Monday.
Rolle suffered a sprained MCL during a “non-contact practice” on Nov. 20, according to Bears coach John Fox.
“He’ll be taken care of well,” Fox said. “I don’t think there will be any long-term effects, but I don’t know that. I can’t predict it.”
Rolle ends the season with 45 tackles and zero takeaways. The soon-to-be 33-year old safety has no guaranteed money left on his deal, but could earn a $2.4 million base salary, $100,000 workout bonus, and a possible $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses in 2016 if he returns.
Fox, meantime, said wide receiver Marquess Wilson already underwent surgery to repair a fractured bone in his foot that he, too, sustained in a “non-contact practice.” Wilson went on injured reserve last Saturday.
Cornerback Sherrick McManis experienced delayed concussion symptoms following last Sunday’s loss to Washington and is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
As for linebacker Pernell McPhee, Fox said he “wouldn’t go as far to say” if the team intends to shut down McPhee for the rest of the year. A lingering knee issue forced McPhee to sit out the Bears’ 24-21 defeat at the hands of the Redskins. One of the club’s best players on defense, McPhee has missed a total of two games in 2015.
Fox declined to provide an update on rookie receiver Kevin White. The Bears have until 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday to activate White to the active roster or leave him on PUP, effectively ending his season.
