LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Now that Buffalo officially has fired its entire coaching staff, former interim head coach/defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is free to pursue other opportunities. Reportedly, he's also free to interview for the Bills head coaching job. Fewell's name has been linked to a potential defensive coordinator opening here in Chicago, and for good reason, since his relationship with Lovie Smith dates back to their time together in St. Louis.

Bears linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa played on the Rams in 2003 and 2004, and remembers then-secondary coach Fewell as a positive force on the staff.

"He was a pretty good coach with the defensive backs whenever we were in team meetings," Tinoisamoa said. "I got a long with him very well whenever I was around him."

Fewell spent 2005 with the Bears before moving on to the Bills the following season. But even though he spent only one year in Chicago, Fewell likely has a decent feel for the roster, and even coached starting cornerback Zack Bowman in the East-West Shrine game a few years ago.
