Barber vs. Forte on goal line

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Among the myriad issues to consider in the aftermath of the Chicago Bears' 41-13 loss Monday night to the Giants, the club’s goal-line sequence in the third quarter involving Marion Barber intrigued us.

With the ball on the New York 2, Barber ran twice for 1 yard, and was stuffed for no gain on fourth-and-1 from the 1. Barber’s inability to punch it in on consecutive runs left us to wonder whether he’s really the beastly goal-line back the team billed him to be upon acquiring him, so we pulled up the statistics from 2010 compiled by ESPN Stats & Information.

Interestingly, Barber really wasn’t better than Matt Forte last season in goal-to-go situations or on runs from inside the opponent’s 3-yard line.
