Idonije: Defense gels faster than offense

While the Chicago Bears' offense has started the season slowly, the defense has been sharp from the start, but that's no surprise to defensive end Israel Idonije.

"The defense gels so much quicker than an offense," Idonije said Monday on "Carmen, Jurko & Harry" on ESPN 1000. "It's three games in. We've all seen the big-play potential that the offense has, potential that we haven't seen in years with the ability that they have to take over a game. So I think they've just got to clean up some things and what you're going to see is consistency really come out of it.

"Even (Sunday) there were a lot of big plays that were missed and left on the field on that offensive side of that football. When we make those plays moving forward, when that consistency is there, it's gonna just take our game to a whole other level."

Through three games, the Bears are 26th in the NFL in total offense, and quarterback Jay Cutler's 58.6 passer rating is better than only Miami Dolphins rookie Ryan Tannehill.
