John Fox: Eddie Goldman not likely to need surgery on injured ankle

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears starting nose tackle Eddie Goldman’s ankle injury doesn't appear to be serious enough to require surgery.

“I don’t think [Goldman’s injury] is surgical, but I don’t know all the exacts,” Bears head coach John Fox said on Monday. “It’s really not good to report on it yet until we get all the information.”

Goldman suffered the ankle injury in the second half of the Bears’ 26-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. He left the visitors’ locker room in a walking boot.

Goldman played just 16 snaps in Week 16, but overall, he’s enjoyed a productive rookie season.

The second-round pick is fourth on the defense with 4.5 sacks.

“I think he’s had a good rookie season,” Fox said. “I really do. I know I’m excited about working with him moving forward. And I think he’s excited about working with us.”
