Hawks prospects watch: Teräväinen scoring

Here’s a look at some of the prospects in the Chicago Blackhawks system:

Teuvo Teräväinen, center, drafted 1st round (No. 18 overall) by the Blackhawks in 2012

The 18-year-old Teräväinen snapped a five-game goalless streak last week by netting shots in consecutive games in the SM-liiga in Finland. He had two goals for Jokerit in a 3-1 win over SaiPa on Jan. 29 and added another goal in a 3-2 win over Tappara on Jan. 31.

Teräväinen has 11 goals and 13 assists in 34 games this season. Jokerit is in first place in the SM-liiga with 93 points in 50 games.

Henrik Karlsson, goaltender, traded from Calgary for the Blackhawks’ 7th-round pick in 2013

The 29-year-old Karlsson played in his first game for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL since being acquired on Jan. 21. He made 18 saves and allowed one goal in a 1-0 loss to the San Antonio Rampage on Friday.

Garret Ross, left wing, drafted 5th round (139th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2012

The 20-year-old Ross is tied for fourth with 31 goals in the OHL this season. He also has 30 assists in 45 games for the Saginaw Spirit. He had eight goals and eight assists in January and already has three goals and two assists in two games in February. He had 25 goals and 29 assists in 60 games in the OHL last season.

Vincent Hinostroza, center, drafted 6th round (No. 169th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2012

The 18-year-old Hinostroza, a Chicago native, had his point streak snapped at nine games when he left Saturday’s Waterloo Black Hawks’ USHL game with a wrist injury, according to a report by The Courier in Waterloo, Iowa. Hinostroza left the game at 9:23 of the first period and did not return, according to the report. He has 23 goals and 31 assists in 36 games this season.

Justin Holl, defenseman, drafted 2nd round (54th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2010

The 21-year-old Holl, a junior at the University of Minnesota, snapped a 42-game goal drought by scoring his first goal of the season in a 4-1 win over Minnesota State on Jan. 26. Holl has one goal and three assists in 21 games this season. The Gophers are 18-4-4 overall and ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com poll. Minnesota faces Wisconsin at Soldier Field on Feb. 17.

Alex Broadhurst, center, drafted 7th round (No. 199th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2011

The 19-year-old Broadhurst, who is from Orland Park, Ill., has adjusted well to his first season in the OHL after playing in the USHL last season. He has 17 goals and 28 assists for the London Knights in 50 games this season. He’s had three goals and four assists in his last eight games. He had 73 points in 53 games in the USHL last season.

Michael Paliotta, defenseman, drafted 3rd round (70th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2011

The 19-year-old Paliotta, a sophomore defenseman for the University of Vermont, has six assists and 40 penalty minutes in 24 games this season. The Catamounts are 7-14-4 overall this season.

Nick Mattson, defenseman, drafted 6th round (180th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2010

Mattson, a sophomore at the University of North Dakota, has two goals and nine assists in 23 games this season. He also has a plus/minus rating of plus-9, which ranks second on the team, and has 17 blocked shots. North Dakota is 14-8-6 overall and is ranked No. 7 in the USCHO.com poll.
