Bickell on path to return vs. Canucks

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks forward Bryan Bickell will likely travel for Tuesday’s game against the Nashville Predators, but he probably won’t return to the lineup until Friday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

“We’ll see [about Tuesday,]” Quenneville said prior to Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings. “I don’t know. More likely that Friday

Bickell will miss his 14th consecutive game on Sunday due to a lower-body injury. He suffered the injury when he crashed into a goal post against the Colorado Avalanche on Nov. 19. He has five goals and one assist in 22 games this season.

"He did well today [in training,] so he's close," Quenneville said.

Backup duties: Quenneville would not commit to whether Kent Simpson or Jason LaBarbera would be the backup goaltender going forward.

The Blackhawks acquired LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, and he reported to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Simpson made his NHL debut on Saturday and allowed two goals on seven shots.

“We’ll see how that all plays out over the next little bit,” Quenneville said.

Rookie goaltender Antti Raanta will make his fourth consecutive start on Sunday. He is 5-1-1 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .911 save percentage.
