Trevor van Riemsdyk expected back in eight weeks

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks defenseman prospect Trevor van Riemsdyk underwent successful surgery to repair a right wrist injury and is expected to return in eight weeks, the team announced Tuesday.

Van Riemsdyk, 23, had the surgery under the supervision of the Blackhawks head team physician, Dr. Michael Terry, on Tuesday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

"The procedure went well, and we expect a full recovery and a return to play in approximately eight weeks," Terry said in a statement.

Van Riemsdyk, a rookie, injured the wrist in a recent game against the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. He also fractured his left patella Nov. 16 in a game with the Blackhawks, and underwent successful surgery for that.

He was assigned to the IceHogs in February and had played in eight games in the AHL. He played in 18 games for the Blackhawks this season.
