Former Northwestern point guard Michael Thompson signed a contract with the Fraport Skyliners in Germany on Wednesday.
Thompson was hoping to sign earlier in the summer, but he waited for the right opportunity.
"I had to have a lot of patience, but that's pretty much what my agent was saying," Thompson said. "At the same time, it was really tough. I just had to focus on the things I could control. I had to make sure I stay focused and stay in the gym every day and be ready for when my time comes.
"I believe it came down to the right fit. Just finding a team that was really interested in me."
Thompson was a four-year starter for the Wildcats and finished ranked first in career assists, minutes played, games played and games started, second in 3-pointers made, third in points and fifth in steals.
Thompson will join former Wisconsin star Jon Leuer on the Skyliners.
"To play with Jon Leuer should be fun," Thompson said. "I won't have to worry about him making 3-pointers against us. I can imagine we'll be running pick and pops."
