Dallas Beeler, Kyle Hendricks to face Reds

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Chicago Cubs will have Triple-A right-handed pitchers Dallas Beeler and Kyle Hendricks travel to Cincinnati on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, for starts against the Reds on Wednesday and Thursday, according to both players.

Beeler, 25, will be making his second career start Wednesday night, while Hendricks, 24, will make his major league debut in the finale of a five-game series Thursday afternoon.

“My family has plane tickets,” Hendricks said Monday. “Hopefully I can get all of them there. That’s the best part of it. Sharing it with them and having them benefit with you because they’ve been through this journey as well.”

Hendricks is 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 16 Triple-A starts this season after being named the Cubs' minor league pitcher of the year last season. He was pulled after two innings from his start on Sunday in preparation for his debut on Thursday.

Beeler made his debut late last month in a six-inning stint against the Washington Nationals. He gave up four hits and one unearned run while striking out six in a 3-0 loss.

The Cubs have openings in their rotation after trading Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the Oakland Athletics late last week. Tsuyoshi Wada, 33, (9-5, 2.66 ERA for Iowa) will make his major league debut on Tuesday as part of a day/night doubleheader in Cincinnati.
