Cubs prospect Jackson out for AFL

Cubs GM Hendry had one bit of bad news on Tuesday, saying that top centerfield prospect Brett Jackson has been shut down with a calf infection and will miss the rest of the Arizona Fall League season.

“This is not the heel injury that he had with Team USA,” Hendry said. “Doctors told us yesterday that he shouldn’t play the rest of the fall league. But that’s not a big issue for us. For a guy a year and a half out of the draft, he’s played a lot of baseball.”

The Cubs expect Jackson to be ready for pre-spring training drills in early 2011. Jackson along with pitcher Chris Archer are considered the two top prospects in the Cubs’ minor league system.

In other minor league news, the Cubs will have a minicamp in January or early February with some of their top young players in Mesa, Ariz. The minicamp is a continuation of what the organization has been doing the past few seasons.
