Boston GM: I'll talk to Theo in Milwaukee

BOSTON -- Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said Friday that he and Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein will meet at the GM meetings in Milwaukee at some point next week to discuss the compensation the Sox will receive for the departure of their former GM.

"We've had a couple of phone calls on it and I think we know where each of us stands," explained Cherington. "We'll get together in person. We're both focused on managers stuff, but we'll sit down in Milwaukee and see if there's some way to [settle it]."

Because both organizations are in the midst of interviewing candidates for their respective vacant managerial positions, the commissioner's office has given the Sox and the Cubs some leeway because Bud Selig & Co. feel progress has been made.

"I'm going to ask for [Epstein's] suite at the winter meetings as part of the compensation," Cherington said with a laugh. "It'll be nicer than mine."
