Throughout the offseason, the Chicago Fire have promoted "quick fire" video clips of their players answering a bunch of questions, including whether they would choose a good book or FIFA 11.
The video game tends to be the popular selection, but the game's makers do not think so highly of the Fire's 2011 outlook.
EA Sports conducted a simulated 2011 MLS regular season using EA Sports FIFA Soccer 11 on PlayStation 3. The results, released Tuesday by EA Sports, have the Fire finishing last in the Eastern Conference with a 7-6-21 record and 27 points. The simulation also had the Fire scoring only 27 goals in 34 games and giving up 59 goals for a goal differential of minus-32.
EA Sports' simulation used the MLS teams' rosters as of March 7.
Among other results in the simulation, the Western Conference's Los Angeles Galaxy were picked to win the MLS Supporters' Shield with a 24-7-3 record and 79 points. The New York Red Bulls finished first in the East (17-10-7 record, 61 points), and the West's expansion Portland Timbers were picked to finish with the league's worst record at 4-9-21 (21 points).
