KANSAS CITY, Mo. -– Late in another White Sox game Sunday, and there is no sign of Matt Thornton.
The left-hander continues to sit out with soreness in his left forearm. He last pitched Tuesday at Minnesota when he gave up Jim Thome’s game-winning home run after 1 1/3 innings of work.
The White Sox medical staff will re-evaluate Thornton in Chicago on Monday or Tuesday. The team opens a six-game homestand Tuesday against the Orioles and Yankees.
If Thornton has to go on the disabled list, Erick Threets is a possible candidate to be reinstated from his own DL stint. That would leave the team with Threets and rookie Chris Sale as their only left-handed relievers.
