At only 33, Fisch certainly seems to have a very bright future in the NFL, but is he ready to be an offensive coordinator at this level in 2010? A better bet might be for Fisch to coach quarterbacks this year, and while his relationship with Jay Cutler would certainly make Chicago an appealing place, we're again faced with two major negatives surrounding any job with the Bears: security and money.
In Washington, or even Seattle for that matter, a newly hired assistant coach knows (1) his boss -- Shanahan, Pete Carroll -- will be around for the foreseeable future, and (2) those places pay more because of owners like Dan Synder and Paul Allen.
A prospective hire could probably look past those two roadblocks if it meant receiving a huge promotion such as offensive coordinator, but given what's at stake for Smith, would he hire somebody without previous NFL play calling experience? Every previous hire and decision by this head coach in the post-Super Bowl era would lead us to think 'no.’ So, if it comes down to being QB coach of the Bears or Redskins, what else do the Bears have to offer besides Cutler?
