Continuing a very preliminary look at how the Cleveland Browns roster might shake out come September, with a comparison to last season's numbers after the final cutdown out of preseason.
Left to ponder: Ibraheim Campbell.
Last year/this year: The Browns kept six last season; they keep five this season.
The top four are more or less set. Bademosi makes the team because the Browns feel he is a Pro Bowl special teams player.
The way the Browns handled Gipson's contract situation has been interesting. Nobody knows the offers the team made, which means nobody knows what Gipson turned down. The bottom line is that he's signed for just this season.
Gipson is young, talented, and a Pro Bowler, but he also dropped Devin McCourty's name when he mentioned some of the contracts being given to safeties. McCourty was given a $48.5 million contract with a $15 million signing bonus and $28.5 million in guaranteed money.
Is Gipson worth that? He'll have the chance to prove he is on the field this season, because it certainly seems the Browns and he are heading to a situation where he plays out his tender, then tests the free agent market.
Poyer will be the main backup, but Bademosi's special teams emphasis puts Campbell on the roster for depth.
They'll keep: Gipson, Whitner, Poyer, Bademosi, Cambpell (5)
