ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Late in the first half of Duke's matchup against Oregon in the Sweet 16, the action on the floor didn't matter as much as the commotion in the stands.

Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers legend who will retire after this season, talked to Oklahoma star Buddy Hield, who had just scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his team's win over Texas A&M in the Sweet 16.

The two shared a moment before Hield entered the tunnel near the locker rooms at the Honda Center and Bryant found his seat. They shook hands, as Hield seemed awestruck by the encounter.

Fans crowded Bryant at halftime. He obliged their requests and took many photos with them before Hield found him.

As for the specifics of his conversation with Hield, a projected lottery pick in this summer's NBA draft, Bryant would not reveal any details when asked about the exchange by ESPN.com.

"I told him that I'm not doing any interviews tonight," Bryant said.

He chuckled before he took more selfies and signed more autographs.
