Results: The Bulldogs dropped two of three games for the third consecutive SEC series. They beat Arkansas 4-2 Friday to open the series, then lost 8-3 and 8-0 on Saturday and Sunday.
Georgia record: 19-13 (5-7 SEC)
Highlight of the week: Alex Wood pitched a complete-game gem in Friday’s win, allowing seven hits, three walks and two earned runs while striking out 11 Arkansas batters.
Top offensive performer: The Bulldogs collected only 20 hits all weekend, but Kyle Farmer batted .333 (4-for-12) and scored three of Georgia’s seven runs against Arkansas.
Top pitching performer: Wood is the obvious choice here, but Bryan Benzor also deserves credit for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless middle relief Sunday before Arkansas put the game out of reach later against Blake Dieterich.
Key statistic: It’s hard to win when the pitching staff allows eight runs, which Georgia’s did on both Saturday and Sunday, but the Bulldogs’ offense didn’t pick up their struggling pitchers. The Bulldogs batted .204 (20-for-98) in the three games in losing by a combined 18-7 margin.
They said it: “We only scored seven runs all weekend, and we managed to win one game. We’ve got to get some guys going, both in our starting pitching and some of our veteran hitters.” -- Georgia coach David Perno
Up next: The Bulldogs visit Clemson on Wednesday and then return home the next day to start a three-game series against Ole Miss between Thursday and Saturday.
