This was originally supposed to be a ranking. All 30 teams. Rankings are fun, right? They create debate, get all the fan bases involved. Good times.
The idea was to rank all 30 teams based on their likelihood of trading a first-round pick before the trade deadline. Then came a few pre-ranking phone calls to get a sense of teams' plans heading into the deadline and the message was clear: First-round picks, for the most part, aren’t in play. A ranking would end up with six or seven maybes and a bunch of no-ways. It sucked the life out of the idea.
