Cowboys wakeup call: Day 23

OXNARD, Calif. -- Every day of Dallas Cowboys training camp we'll offer up a wake-up call that offers a quick review of the previous day and a preview of the current day.

Today's schedule: The Cowboys will hold a quick walkthrough at 8 a.m. PT before heading to their charter flight back to Texas for the preseason home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

Quick thoughts on Thursday's practice:

  • Without pads, one-on-one, 7-on-7 or competitive team drills, Thursday' session was spent focusing on the Baltimore Ravens. One play caught my eye: Barry Church dropped a sure interception of a Caleb Hanie throw down the seam to Jordan Najvar.

  • Look for Orlando Scandrick and B.W. Webb to be the starting corners Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. They took the first-team snaps on the outside on Thursday with Sterling Moore handling the nickel role.

  • Lost amid the hoopla of Terrell Owens' appearance at Thursday's practice was the visit by actor Dennis Haskins of "Saved by the Bell" fame. Mr. Belding has become friend with quarterback Tony Romo over the years.

What I'm watching: The clock. With the Cowboys going through a short walkthrough, most of the attention will be on how quickly the players get off the field and how quickly I can get to LAX for a flight back home.

The walk-through will be a short one, focused on situational work for Saturday.

They said it: “I got sunburned. I put sun screen on out here, but I didn't put on enough at the beach. It was good though. It was nice to get out there. The water was a little chilly but it felt good being out on the beach all day. I had the lobster rolls or whatever they call them. By the time I got back to the hotel I wasn't hungry. I had a salad for dinner. It was good, real good food.” - quarterback Brandon Weeden on the Cowboys' trip to the beach after Wednesday's practice against the Oakland Raiders.
