IRVING, Texas -- There are those who believe a boycott of all things Dallas Cowboys would force Jerry Jones to change the way he runs the team, especially after a miserable 4-12 finish in 2015.
But if you need more proof that the boycott group is merely a vocal minority, then just know that the Cowboys sold out their 800 initial memberships at the Cowboys Club, which is set to open in September at the team’s new practice facility, The Star at Ford Center, in Frisco, Texas.
Families were able to join with a one-time fee of $4,500, plus $350 per month. Corporate memberships have a different fee based on the number of people involved.
If you were shut out from the Cowboys Club, you can plunk down $250 for a spot on the waiting list.
The Cowboys are 20 years removed from their last Super Bowl appearance. They are one of three NFC teams not to play in a conference title game since 1995. They have made the playoffs just once in the last six seasons.
And yet people are lining up for the following benefits of joining the Cowboys Club (straight from the press release):
** Behind-the-Scenes Access: The Cowboys Club will overlook the Dallas Cowboys practice fields, in addition to the Ford Center field, where the eight Frisco ISD high schools will play all home games. In addition, members can attend coach, executive and player chalk talks covering business and football operations -- from the driving vision of owner Jerry Jones, to a breakdown of the team’s draft picks.
** Bar and Dining Options: The club venue will feature multiple bar and dining options, including a five-star restaurant, as well as a terrace and rooftop pool area where members can dine.
** Cowboys Fit: Membership with the Cowboys Club includes gratis membership to Cowboys Fit -- a fitness facility located beneath the club revolutionizing the gym experience, developed in partnership with 24-hour Fitness founder, Mark Mastrov.
** Corporate & Private Meeting Spaces: Members will have access to multiple meeting rooms, catering to both business and private gatherings.
** Valet Parking: Each guest is offered valet parking upon arrival.
** Monthly Events: Members will enjoy monthly events at the Cowboys Club suitable for families and adults alike, such as game nights, whiskey tastings, watch parties and more.
AT&T Stadium opened in 2009 and remains the best stadium in the NFL. Considering all The Star will have to offer, it’s hard to imagine anything else being better in the NFL.
Just imagine how much more popular it would be if the Cowboys actually won again.
