Doug Free doing well after offseason surgery

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Dallas Cowboys right tackle Doug Free is recovering well from offseason foot surgery, according to coach Jason Garrett.

Free had a clean-up surgery in January and should be OK for the offseason program. He had a more involved surgery last year that limited his time in the offseason and early in training camp. While he started every game in 2015, Free was dealing with issues throughout the season.

“He’s been dealing with that foot for a little bit, but Doug is a tough guy and we feel like that’s going to be behind him and he’ll be ready to go,” Garrett said.

Free is entering the second year of a three-year deal he signed last season. He has started every game he has played since 2010 but missed five games in 2014 because of a foot injury. The Cowboys drafted Chaz Green in the third round last year to be the backup at left and right tackle, but he missed the season because of hip surgery. Charles Brown filled that role for 15 games last season and was re-signed to a one-year deal at the start of free agency.
