Day 3 recap: Mandatory Minicamp

IRVING -- The Cowboys finished up their mandatory three-day minicamp on Sunday in casual fashion. It was Family Day at Valley Ranch where all the players, coaches, scouts and front office personnel were allowed to bring their close family members to watch practice and get some grub.

Wade Phillips said his team is about family and he just doesn't mean it on the field. He means it off the field as well. Some highlights of the last day of the mandatory minicamp:

*Leonard Davis returned to the team after missing Saturday's sessions to attend a funeral.

*Wade Phillips wanted to make sure this last practice session, more like an extended walkthough, had all the players on their toes. First-teamers such as Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Andre Gurode, DeMarcus Ware, Mike Jenkins and Bradie James were going through 11-on-11 drills.

*Felix Jones and Miles Austin walked onto the practice field wearing sunglasses. Marcus Spears and Roy E. Williams wore stylish hats during stretching. Martellus Bennett had his dog, tied up to the playclock, watch practice. Marc Colombo chatted with his kids before practice.

*Jerry Jones parked his black towncar next to his two-story suite sitting next to the practice fields before walking into the hot sun to watch things. He had a long talk with Romo as the second-and-third teamers got some snaps.

*Notes: Sunday was the last team practice before July 24, the first day of training camp. ... Several injured players, Orlando Scandrick (finger), Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (shoulder) and Stephen Hodge (knee) are expected back for training camp.
