IRVING -- A few things we noticed from the 30-minute opportunity given to the media to watch practice.
1. Dez Bryant is fielding punts and kickoffs.
The Cowboys want to get their best players on the field, and Bryant appears to be one of them. Not only is he the No. 3 receiver, but he was fielding punts and kick returns during the special teams portion of practice Monday. Bryant is getting backed up by Felix Jones and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah on kick returns. Kevin Ogletree backed up Bryant on punts.
2. Chris Boniol is still here.
When the Cowboys hired Boniol, it was to work with kicker David Buehler during training camp. His status for the regular season is uncertain, but Boniol was helping, at least for now, on the special teams unit. He was punting the ball to Bryant on Monday. Buehler said he hopes Boniol remains for the entire season, but understands if that can't happen he can always call him.
3. Jersey and locker changes
Bryant's stall was moved from next to Montrae Holland to near Deon Anderson. A few jersey numbers also changed. Sean Lissemore is 95, Josh Brent is 92, Scott Chandler is 86 and Cliff Louis is 78.
