IRVING, Texas -- Line one, as Jason Garrett likes to say, for Cowboys players and coaches is to have emotion, passion and enthusiasm.
New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has all three.
“They’re getting a fun guy that loves football, man,” said Cleveland defensive back DeAngelo Smith. “He sleeps at the office. He’s a players’ coach. I think the Cowboys will really enjoy him being there. He’s going to make the game fun and they’re going to have fun.”
Smith was a fifth round pick of the Cowboys in 2009 and spent last season on the Browns’ practice squad. Knowing the Cowboys’ personnel, Smith believes Ryan will be a good fit.
“It’s more of a pressure-type defense and he’s got that pass rush up front,” Smith said. “You’ve got D-Ware and [Anthony] Spencer and [Jay] Ratliff, that front they push the pocket. And you know he brings pressure. It helps everybody out. It’s a fun defense to play. You get to man-up outside and show what you got and you’ve got the interior doing what they do best.”
