Andre Gurode's status uncertain

SAN ANTONIO -- Cowboys center Andre Gurode missed the first walkthrough session of training camp on Thursday morning as he's still recovering from surgery on his right knee.

Gurode said he underwent the surgery in late June and started running three weeks ago.

He most likely will be placed on the PUP list.

Coach Jason Garrett said he wasn't upset that Gurode had the surgery about a month ago because it was something that just needed to happen. Garrett said the surgery wasn't prompted by any offseason injury.

"No, I'm not discouraged," Garrett said. "We'll get him back and he'll get himself ready to roll and he'll get himself back out on that practice field before you know it."

Gurode was replaced at center by Phil Costa on the first-team offensive line Thursday.

Gurode was the only regular player to miss the walkthrough session due to health issues.

Marion Barber, Marc Colombo, Roy Williams and Leonard Davis also missed the session, but it's expected they will be released at some point today.

There were other players who didn't practice because of contract issues.
