Cowboys waive FB Tony Fiammetta

IRVING, Texas -- To make room for wide receiver Laurent Robinson the Cowboys waived fullback Tony Fiammetta but it might be only a short goodbye.

Fiametta was claimed off waivers from Carolina on Sunday and practiced with the Cowboys on Monday. A fourth-round pick in 2009 by the Panthers, Fiammetta, 6 feet, 242 pounds, started nine games in 2010 and had seven carries for 22 yards and five catches for 34 yards in two seasons.

The Cowboys will go into Sunday’s season opener at the New York Jets without a true fullback. Chris Gronkowski, Shaun Chapas, Jason Pociask and Isaiah Greenhouse were among the final cuts Saturday. Gronkowski was claimed by Indianapolis and Chapas was re-signed to the practice squad.

It is possible Fiammetta could return to the team next week, which would require the Cowboys to make another roster move.
