WR Benford sidelined by knee surgery

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Tim Benford’s offseason has been derailed because of arthroscopic surgery to his left knee.

Benford, who spent last year on the practice squad after signing as an undrafted free agent, was scheduled to take part in this weekend’s rookie minicamp. But he will not be able to return to the field until training camp begins in Oxnard, Calif.

Long-snapper Charley Hughlett was also supposed to practice this weekend, but was excused. Guard Charlie Bryant, who signed with the Cowboys in February after spending time with the San Diego Chargers, left the team after Friday’s practice.

Wide receiver Darrin Moore, an Irving native and Texas Tech-ex, was at camp on a tryout basis but also quit.
